Avondale cases, sources and court history

This initial collection covers named victims from 2012–2025, with reported court updates through 2026. It includes the Westview High School parking-lot killing of Takesha Barnes, the Carlos Arenas public appeal and the prosecution arising from Rhiana Kemplin’s death.

The records distinguish nearby places that can otherwise be confused in searches: the I-10 and Dysart Road scene in Tyler Edenhofer’s case, the MCSO substation where Juan Miguel Ruiz was attacked, and the McDowell Road area shootings involving Gabriel Sotelo and Frank Vitale. An Avondale resident’s death in another city does not automatically belong in this directory.

Legal outcomes vary. Frank Vitale’s record includes a 2026 sentence; Carlos Arenas’s source seeks public information. Jesus Real’s record explains that prosecutors declined the charge against the initially identified suspect. These differences matter when interpreting a homicide directory.

How this directory is built

About the Avondale homicide data

Avondale records draw on Silent Witness, the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office and established local reporting. Victim names, dates, locations and legal outcomes are checked separately. Month-only dates remain at month precision. A later death at a hospital is distinguished from the date and place of the original attack.

Is this a complete list of murders in Avondale?

No. These 12 victim records are an initial researched collection, not an official total or a complete historical census.

Are the map pins exact crime-scene locations?

No map pins have been assigned yet. Each record gives the location described in the source, but precise scene coordinates have not been verified.

What is the difference between homicide and murder?

Homicide means one person caused another person’s death. Murder is a criminal legal classification. Case cards preserve distinctions such as homicide investigation, murder charge, conviction, unsolved case and murder-suicide rather than treating them as interchangeable.

Where do the Avondale case sources come from?

Sources include Silent Witness, the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office, ABC15, FOX 10 Phoenix, Arizona’s Family and Phoenix New Times. Each record links to its supporting material.
